The NTHU CareLife Club and the Tail-Wagging Animal Friendly Association co-organized a dog adoption meeting, featuring dogs including Bai Juyi, Caramel, and Xiao Ai. The event aimed to increase the visibility of the dogs through a public gathering, helping to match them with suitable families. The adoption process was not completed on the day of the event; rather, it centered on “pre-adoption interaction and assessment.” Through on-site interactions, explanations from dedicated staff, and follow-up contacts and evaluations, the process ensured careful consideration and the well-being of the dogs.
The event took place on October 19 in the Shilin District of Taipei City. The dogs were taken out of the medical station to interact with different members of the public and experience various environmental stimuli, enhancing their socialization skills and reducing their sensitivity to outside stimuli. The event included situational designs such as sniffing mats and dog tunnels to guide the dogs in establishing a sense of security and stabilizing their emotions, thereby improving their potential for family adaptation. Additionally, previous successful foster dogs were invited back to the event to showcase the positive outcomes of adoptions and reinforce the public's recognition of responsible adoption and animal protection.
This event accumulated practical experience in adoption and socialization, laying the groundwork for future outdoor adoption activities and animal-friendly actions, embodying the spirit of animal protection as outlined in SDG 15 “Life on Land,” and echoing SDG 11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” promoting a friendly society where humans and animals coexist harmoniously.
