Abstract/Objectives

The College of Life Sciences at National Tsing Hua University and the Department of Biology and Protein Research Center at Osaka University have conducted over ten bilateral academic exchanges in the past. Due to the unique geographical locations and research focuses of the two universities as well as their comparable academic status, the annual bilateral scientific research and talent cultivation seminar has provided an equitable exchange platform for biomedical fields in Taiwan and Japan. After a decade of uninterrupted exchange, Osaka University and Tsinghua University have established a dual Ph.D. degree program, providing graduate students from Taiwan and Japan with the opportunity to obtain doctoral degrees from both schools, and jointly cultivating biomedical-related research personnel. Currently, one Taiwanese student has obtained a dual Ph.D. degree from Tsinghua-Osaka. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, visits cannot take place as in previous years. This time, both sides have decided to conduct the seminar exchange through a virtual conference, with two teachers and eight student speakers giving presentations together to explore the mysteries of life, with great expectations.

1. Continuing Academic Exchange and Interaction between Teachers and Students via International Video Conferencing


This activity was conducted by both schools through a combination of physical conferences and individual video conferencing. Two teachers and eight student speakers from Taiwan and Japan took turns in giving speeches and discussing, with a total of 80 participants.


2. Providing Opportunities for Taiwanese and Japanese Cultural Exchange, Establishing Friendship and Enhancing the Quality of Graduate Education


Both sides exchanged souvenirs and special snacks, providing participants with opportunities not only for academic exchange, but also for cultural exchange in a relaxed atmosphere. We hope to conduct actual exchange visits in the future to continue the friendship between the two schools.
