Tsing Hua College:

The university actively initiates and participates in cross-sectoral dialogues on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), engaging with government agencies, NGOs, and industry partners through conferences, workshops, and forums.

Key initiatives include:

  • Hosting the University Sustainability and Local Governance Forum, bringing together local governments, enterprises, and community organizations to discuss low-carbon transitions and education for sustainability;
  • Participating in regional Sustainable Cities and Net-Zero Transition Conferences to share research findings and campus sustainability practices;
  • Co-organizing Youth Sustainability Action Workshops with NGOs to empower young people to implement SDG-related projects.

These activities strengthen partnerships between academia, government, and civil society, fostering collaborative action toward regional and educational sustainability.

Office of Global Affairs, OGA:

NTHU hosted a Bilateral Symposium with the University of Liverpool on October 1st, 2025. The theme of the symposium was SDG #17, "Partnerships for the Goals." Faculty members from both institutions presented and discussed their research in alignment with this theme. The event aimed to further strengthen and deepen collaboration between the two universities.

Secretariat:

 Yes. On November 19, 2024, the Ministry of Environment and National Tsing Hua University signed a MOU on the “Sustainability Professional Training Program,” joining forces to promote sustainability education and training. The MOU was signed by Minister of Environment Chi-Ming Peng and President W. John Kao of NTHU. This represents not only a concrete step in combining the capacity-building efforts of higher education institutions, but also a model for cultivating sustainability talent in Taiwan with a global vision.

In the past, NTHU has provided the Ministry of Environment with professional support in areas such as environmental law and international climate conventions. Through this MOU, NTHU will leverage its expertise in global engagement, policy-making, and cross-sectoral collaboration within the sustainability field.

College of Life Sciences and Medicine:

This project aims to promote collaboration and development in medical research through academic exchanges between National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and Taichung Veterans General Hospital (TVGH). The event features a half-day visit and academic symposium, including presentations on the College of Life Science and Medicine, panel discussions, and in-depth exchanges, with the goal of further strengthening research collaboration.

To assist the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in promoting international carbon credit cooperation with Taiwan’s diplomatic allies, faculty members from our institute conducted a field study in May 2025 in Saint Kitts and Nevis—one of the target countries designated under MOFA’s “Allied Nations Program.” The mission assessed the local potential for carbon market development and the progress of pilot projects.

 In addition, to strengthen Taiwan’s influence in international cooperation across the Caribbean region, our faculty participated in the Global Sustainable Islands Summit 2025 (GSIS 2025) and delivered a keynote speech, fostering dialogue on the interlinkage between climate action and sustainable development.

(2)

 In April 2025, in line with MOFA’s Allied Nations Program designating Guatemala and Paraguay as target countries, faculty members from our institute accompanied officials from MOFA’s Department of Treaty and Legal Affairs and the Climate Change Administration of the Ministry of Environment, together with representatives from the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), for bilateral meetings and consultations. Discussions focused on exploring opportunities for carbon credit cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

(3)

 To promote trilateral exchanges on green energy and intellectual property (IP) between Taiwan, the United States, and Canada, a faculty member from our institute was commissioned by MOFA to serve as Taiwan’s keynote speaker at the Green Energy and Intellectual Property Conference jointly organized by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver and partners from the U.S. and Canada in September 2022. The presentation, titled Maximizing the Shared Value of Regional IP-Driven LCE Development – An Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Perspective, centered on how intellectual property can support innovation within the green energy sector. Drawing on the speaker’s expertise in UNFCCC-related research, the session facilitated policy and academic dialogue between Taiwan and North American counterparts.

(4)

To enhance cooperation between Taiwan and Jordan in the field of climate change, a faculty member from our institute was invited by MOFA in October 2022 to serve as Taiwan’s keynote speaker at the Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Workshop co-hosted by MOFA and the West Asia–North Africa (WANA) Institute, presided over by Jordan’s former Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal. The presentation, titled “Net Zero 2050” as a New Policy to Scale Up Taiwan’s Climate Actions, addressed Taiwan’s policy pathways toward carbon neutrality. The event provided a platform for bilateral exchange on climate impacts and response strategies.

(5)

 To strengthen partnerships among global think tanks specializing in climate change law, our faculty has collaborated since 2015 with international research institutions such as KU Leuven (Belgium) and the University of Malta to co-organize the Malta Climate Change Law Forum. Each year, the forum’s theme is jointly decided by Professor Chien-Te Fan from our institute and Professor Kurt Deketelaere of Sustainability College Bruges (Belgium). Over the years, the forum has expanded in both academic and technical scope, with events held in collaboration with:

National University of Singapore (2019)

Taiwan (Virtual Conference, 2020)

University of Glasgow, UK (2021)

University of Helsinki, Finland (2023)

University of Insubria, Italy (2024)

Meiji University, Japan (2025)

Associate Professor Yi-Li Lee participated in programs and seminars on the Constitutional Litigation Act organized by the Judicial Reform Foundation in Taiwan. These activities not only invited academic experts but also included representatives from the Judicial Yuan. In these events, Associate Professor Lee, using a comparative perspective, examined how the Korean Constitutional Court has used provisional measures to address its institutional challenges in recent constitutional crisis, offering potential institutional solutions to the controversies arising from Taiwan’s Constitutional Court and the Constitutional Litigation Act. This project is highly relevant to SDG 16 (Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels).
