Abstract/Objectives
The National Tsing Hua University Jieying Museum, initiated through the generous donations of Professor Yang Rou-Bin and Professor Fang Sheng-Ping, began preparations in 2008. With their active involvement, the Museum Preparation Office was established in 2015, and it officially opened its doors in 2022. The professors have donated thousands of items, including modern East Asian manuscripts, books, documents, calligraphy, and paintings, spanning three centuries. The museum building, named the Jieying Building, was funded and named by Mrs. Zeng Fan-Cheng and designed by architect Huang Sheng-Yuan's firm, the Central Architect's Office. Construction commenced in 2021, and it is expected to be completed in 2024. Situated amidst the campus's lush greenery, the building's core architectural value lies in its dialogue between artifacts and the environment, integrating natural landscapes, making it a breathing architectural marvel. Since its inception, the National Tsing Hua University Museum has not only statically preserved historical artifacts but also annually hosts 1 to 2 thematic exhibitions on subjects such as Ming-Qing Confucianism, Edo Sinology, calligraphy, and painting from the Japanese occupation period, and cultural relics brought to Taiwan from the mainland in 1949. It collaborates with various universities and professional institutions to organize exhibitions, fostering academic exchanges and promoting cultural education, showcasing the rich and diverse Han Chinese cultural heritage of modern Taiwan, mainland China, and Japan, often referred to as the "New Two Shores, Three Lands." It also actively engages with local secondary schools and cultural teams in Hsinchu to contribute to the inheritance, reflection, innovation, and sustainability of local culture, fulfilling the university's social responsibilities.
