Our school has established long-term and ongoing communication and dialogue with the local governments of the Greater Hsinchu area, as well as with local NGOs and communities. In 2023, there were 11 project teams collaborating with 20 government units, 144 non-government organizations, and 73 schools. On average, there were 1-2 exchanges or working meetings with these units each week, resulting in more than 650 meetings throughout the year. The close communication and dialogue have also yielded fruitful results for the sustainable development of the Greater Hsinchu area. In December 2023, our school issued the Greater Hsinchu Local Creation Action Declaration, inviting 12 directors from Hsinchu County and City government departments and township leaders to sign.
Our school promotes student participation in various sustainable affairs through collaboration with local organizations and NGOs, starting from the synergy of the curriculum. In 2023, a total of 5,616 students participated in these activities. Teachers from Tsinghua University also fully leveraged their research abilities to address local sustainability issues. For example: (1) The Institute of Service Science and a team from Tsinghua College introduced "electronic nose" technology into the coffee industry in Guanxi Township, Hsinchu County, establishing a sustainable local coffee production and consumption chain. (2) The teachers from the Department of Art and Design combined glass craft technology with the local glass industry, recycling waste glass as raw material and developing a "glass filter cup" that can replace disposable filter paper, promoting green economic development. (3) A team from the Institute of Analysis and Environmental Science focused on the issues in the Tzongjian River basin, studying water resource sustainability through water quality testing technology. These research and practical results have also further developed into teaching modules. By mid-2023, our school had developed a total of 513 courses that incorporated sustainability issues.
