Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
The objective of this project is to offer preventive medicine education and health promotion to residents living in remote regions. The program's content is rooted in extensive experience with local hospitals and health institutions, demonstrating a profound understanding of the medical and health knowledge gaps within the community. These activities encompass: 1) Collaborating with medical personnel at rural health and medical stations. 2) Conducting home visits and delivering health education to individuals with chronic illnesses in rural communities. 3) Offering post-hospitalization follow-up care for emergency patients in their homes. 4)Assisting in the dissemination of medical policy information, including reminders and tracking of vaccination schedules for residents. This comprehensive approach aims to address healthcare disparities and enhance the overall well-being of the local population in medically underserved areas.
Results/Contributions

This course is designed for medical students to plan voluntary service learning on rural medical care, including pre-departure education and training, practical service, and reflection and discussion.

The course is paired with an off-campus medical institution (Miaoli DaChien Hospital) to facilitate students to provide medical services in remote areas during the summer vacation.

Three tasks have been completed in this course:

1. Classroom teaching: Provide pre-service training for volunteer services, and introduce the concepts of health knowledge and health promotion.

2. Service activities: According to the curriculum plan, go to rural communities to provide practical services, family visits, and guide exercise for the elderly, etc.

3. Reflection and discussion: After the service internship was completed, a reflection report was submitted by each student and a class discussion was held.
