In alignment with Taiwan's 2030 Bilingual Policy, we acknowledge the general deficiency in English speaking practice and a lack of confidence among Taiwanese students. To mitigate this, our project partners with high school English teachers to leverage the autonomous learning period delineated in the 108 Curriculum Guidelines. This approach empowers students to introduce Taiwan's unique local culture to foreigners studying Chinese in Taiwan, thus promoting cultural exchange and fostering bilateral language learning.
The current plan engages Hou-Zong High School students and foreigners studying Chinese in Taiwan in discussion during the autonomous learning period. The project aims to enhance students' oral English skills through a blended learning approach, which combines online and in-person interactions. These interactions offer students feedback and an opportunity to undertake speaking challenges, with pre and post-testing of their oral and aural skills employed to assess the effectiveness of the autonomous learning approach.
