1. In line with NTHU's Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety and Health Management Policy, various campus sustainability development initiatives are continuously promoted. These include fostering campus biodiversity, responsible dining consumption, green procurement, energy conservation and carbon reduction, and resource recycling and reuse, aiming to create a green campus.
2. Reduction Targets: (1) The baseline year for the internal chemical reduction plan is 2023, with a 2024 target to reduce the procurement of toxic chemicals by 3% compared to the baseline year. (2) To uphold the spirit of environmental sustainability, reduction and recycling measures will be continually implemented. Medium- and long-term goals aim for an annual reduction of 1% in the procurement of toxic chemicals compared to the baseline year.
3. Existing measures for promoting chemical reduction: (1) Establish chemical lifecycle management methods based on the characteristics of different experimental fields. (2) Promote the purchase of chemical packaging specifications that enable effective use to reduce waste at the source. (3) Establish appropriate chemical operation cycles in laboratories. (4) Advocate chemical sharing to minimize redundant purchases.
4. With assistance from the Hsinchu City Environmental Protection Bureau, related strategies will be formulated. Progress will be monitored quarterly and adjustments to reduction measures will be made to help NTHU achieve its chemical reduction goals: (1) Precise management of chemical usage. (2) Improve and optimize chemical storage and usage facilities. (3) Assess the feasibility of chemical recycling and reuse. (4) Facilitate the exchange and donation of laboratory chemicals. (5) Conduct educational training and establish review mechanisms.
5.Reduction Achievements: (1) NTHU set a reduction target to lower the procurement of toxic chemicals by 3% during June to November 2024 compared to the same period in the baseline year, 2023. (2) Preliminary statistics indicate a reduction of 325.5 kilograms in toxic chemical usage compared to the same period in 2023, with a procurement reduction rate of 10.74%. (3) The 2024 target of reducing toxic chemicals by more than 3% has been achieved.
