Abstract/Objectives
This research project aims to investigate the leading R&D innovation firms through Community Innovation Survey (CIS). Three dimensions, namely technology sourcing, openness, and the linkages of cooperation, were studied to explore the innovative activities to corporate performance. Five case studies are carefully selected by investigating the secondary data such as cooperate annual reports, websites, and related articles of firms that were acquired from the database of Taiwan Economic Journal (TEJ) from 2010 to 2019. These five cases cover across different industries, including semiconductor, manufacturing, biotechnology, finance/service, and telecommunication. The results are still undergoing the process of integration. Further discussion and conclusion will be presented in future research progress.
Results/Contributions

This research collected the R&D expense data of 966 sample companies from 2010 to 2019, and classified 966 companies into different industry categories based on the company categories registered on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. According to this classification, this project then conduct the following analysis and research. We found that the R&D of 966 sample companies in the past ten years were mostly concentrated in telecommunication and semiconductor. From the research results, we can understand the overall change and growth rate of R&D expenditure in Taiwan in the past ten years, especially the R&D funding has increased in semiconductor industry year by year. Through the research results, we can also see the changes in R&D expenses and net profit growth rates of individual industries over the years. The changing trend of the R&D expenses of individual industries is roughly in line with the changing trend of the overall industry, and both are increasing year by year, while the net profit growth rate has changed significantly.
