1. In line with NTHU's Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety and Health Management Policy, various campus sustainability development initiatives are continuously promoted. These include fostering campus biodiversity, responsible dining consumption, green procurement, energy conservation and carbon reduction, and resource recycling and reuse, aiming to create a green campus.
2. On-site Visit by the Chemical Substance Management Agency:
The Chemical Substance Management Agency of the Ministry of Environment visited NTHU in March 2024.
(1) By introducing comprehensive chemical management policies and conducting on-site visits to laboratories, the current chemical management practices and operations at Tsing Hua University were reviewed.
(2) Visiting expert committee members proposed potential improvement strategies, engaging in discussions to strengthen the school's chemical management practices.
(3) On-site inspections of laboratory chemical operations were conducted to assess the current status of chemical management.
3. Recommendations from the Visit:
(1) While NTHU has established chemical lifecycle management regulations, setting clear management goals in the future would help faculty, staff, and students adhere to and implement these practices.
(2) Although NTHU complies with regulations in using toxic chemicals for scientific exploration and research, it is crucial to ensure adherence to current domestic laws when transitioning to application stages, such as process and product development in industry-academia collaborations. Additionally, the school can consider subsequent reduction or substitution actions.
(3) By publicly sharing information on chemical-related incidents and handling procedures, supplier compliance with chemical regulations, compliance records from the past five years, the operational volumes of hazardous chemicals, and associated management measures, the university could enrich the sustainability report's content on chemical sustainability management, offering valuable references to stakeholders.
(4) NTHU has provided laboratory-related education and training for faculty, staff, and students. In the future, this training could extend to chemical suppliers, enabling them to understand Tsing Hua University's chemical management goals and standards, thereby collectively enhancing hazardous chemical control within the supply chain.
