Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
The project's aim is to create and improve a novel glucose-indigo metabolic pathway in Escherichia coli, allowing the bacteria to use glucose for indigo dye production. This initiative seeks to enhance yield and lower costs to boost industrial competitiveness. In partnership with Howard Biotechnology Company, the project will focus on developing E. coli strains and bioprocesses suitable for eco-friendly indigo dye production. The goals include achieving net-zero carbon emissions and promoting green sustainability, ultimately increasing the value and competitiveness of Taiwan’s dyeing and finishing industry.
Results/Contributions

The goal of this project is to establish and optimize an innovative glucose-indigo metabolic pathway, developing Escherichia coli strains that utilize glucose as a carbon source to produce indigo dye, in order to enhance yield and reduce costs, thereby increasing industrial competitiveness. In collaboration with Howard Biotechnology Company, it is expected to develop E. coli strains and bioprocesses with industrial potential for the green production of indigo dye, achieving net-zero carbon reduction and green sustainability goals, while also enhancing the industrial value and competitiveness of Taiwan's dyeing and finishing industry.
