The Master’s Program in Chinese Language and Culture hosts the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, welcoming 8 to 15 international students aged 16 to 19 from Europe, the Americas, and other regions each year. From September to May, students receive training in basic Mandarin, daily conversation, and cultural immersion. Classes are conducted in small, interactive groups by professional instructors from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, combining situational conversation practice and cultural activities to enhance language skills and deepen understanding of Taiwanese culture. By the end of the year, most students progress to the next TOCFL level above their initial placement and adapt well to life in Taiwan.
Additionally, NTHU students participate as interns, assisting with lesson preparation, tutoring, and activity coordination. This hands-on experience allows them to apply academic knowledge, gain teaching practice, and develop cross-cultural communication and organizational skills. The program has been well-received by Rotary District 3501 and the exchange students, securing approval for continued operation in the following years.
