Abstract/Objectives
"The Atayal Doctor is Here" will showcase the results of Jianshi’s medical STEAM education through an opera concert. The 70-minute performance is inspired by the story of Inoue Inosuke, a Japanese doctor and missionary in Jianshi during the Japanese occupation, and the tale of Atayal youth Laisa, who followed Inosuke’s path to become a healer. The story is set against the backdrop of the 1913 Kinaji War, which led to Laisa’s family’s tragedy, and his encounter with Inosuke in 1914, who was treating an influenza outbreak in the region. Through their shared medical work, they developed mutual respect and understanding, reflecting the themes of cross-cultural healing and reconciliation.
