Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
Prof. Ching-Hsien Tseng's work has not only promoted the practical development of aquatic ecosystem management, but also made important contributions to the conservation and sustainable development of rivers and streams in Taiwan. He has the following major achievements in aquatic management practice.
1. Fish passage design and ecological corridor research.
He has spent 40 years studying fish ecology, focusing on designing ecological corridors and fish passage for fish. Combining biological knowledge and engineering expertise, he has designed fish passages from the fish's perspective to help them migrate over dams. She has participated in the design of fish passages in several important dams, including Saddle Dam on Dajia Creek and Long'en Weir on Touqian Creek in Hsinchu.
Interdisciplinary research.
Combining biological knowledge with engineering, he studied engineering specialties such as hydrodynamics and surveying to better design fishways. We emphasize the importance of converting biological parameters into engineering parameters and designing from the fish's point of view.
3. Promotion of eco-friendly practices.
Advocating the reduction of human intervention in engineering and the preservation of pristine mountains and rivers. Promote community participation in ecological conservation, such as protecting the spawning migration of the roundnose grenadier in Longtan Lake, Jiaoxi, Yilan.
4. Innovative fish passage design.
In Yilan, we designed and constructed an experimental tubular fishway, and successfully recorded the anadromous migration of the roundnose cusk in a PVC pipe.
5. Stream ecosystem research: Participated in an inter-university research team.
Participated in an inter-university research team to complete a comprehensive study of stream ecosystems across watersheds and stream landscapes. The results of the study have been published in internationally recognized journals, providing a scientific basis for stream conservation.
6. Knowledge Sharing and Education.
Actively share research results and knowledge of ecological practices, and raise awareness among the public and professionals through presentations.
