Abstract/Objectives
This event is centered around the theme "Travel: A Promise with the Land," combining a guided tour of the mangrove ecosystem, an exploration of Hakka culture, and visits to local industries to create an educational and engaging welcome experience for new students. In collaboration with the sustainable travel brand "Walk in Taiwan," students will be led by professional guides to gain deeper insights into the natural and cultural features of Hsinchu, while also learning how local industries practice cultural preservation and sustainable development. The event also aims to foster a sense of belonging to the department, strengthen connections among peers and senior students, and help newcomers adapt to university life and their new environment.

This orientation event is organized by the department in collaboration with the "Island Walking" travel agency, carefully planning a route that integrates ecology, culture, and industry. The event first leads students into the secret realm of the Xinfeng mangrove forest, where they gain an in-depth understanding of intertidal ecology and wetland conservation issues through guided tours, observing the interactions between mixed forests of species such as the sea lychee and water pine. Following this, students head to the Luko Old Theater to enjoy a traditional Hakka lunch, savoring local ingredients and culinary culture, and then stroll through Luko Old Street under a guide's direction, exploring century-old historical buildings and local cultural sites.

The itinerary concludes with a visit to the Champion Craft Brewery, where students learn about the process from agricultural selection to brewing through a guided tour, experiencing the combination of local industry and sustainable innovation. The overall activity is conducted in groups, fostering students' teamwork and observational expression skills while promoting peer interaction. After class, students write reflections on issues such as sustainable consumption, cultural preservation, and community connections, demonstrating their ability to apply what they have learned.

The event successfully achieves the three major objectives of enhancing a sense of belonging, broadening horizons, and implementing sustainable education, also resonating with SDG Goals 2 (Zero Hunger), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), offering new students an intellectually and emotionally enriching orientation experience.
