Abstract/Objectives
The invasion of Indonesian snakehead fish in the Sun Moon Lake Reservoir poses a severe threat to Taiwan's native fish and shrimp populations. In response, the Nantou County Government partnered with Prof. Tseng Ching-hsien from Tsinghua University to implement an "electrofishing" program, resulting in the capture of around 8,000 snakeheads by 2020. The initiative expanded in 2021, utilizing underwater sonar technology from Garmin to locate and catch the invasive fish more effectively. As water levels in Sun Moon Lake rebounded, the aggressive snakeheads continued to impact local fish species. The ongoing control efforts involve both electrofishing and specialized equipment to manage adult snakeheads, thereby preserving the ecological balance and protecting native aquatic life.
Results/Contributions

With the invasion of Indonesian snakehead into the Sun Moon Lake Reservoir, seriously affecting the survival of Taiwan's native fish and shrimp such as curlews, kelp, and shrimp, the Nantou County Government collaborated with the research team of Prof. Tseng Ching-hsien of Tsinghua University for the first time in 2020, and through the “electrofishing” prevention and control program, a total of about 8,000 fish tigers were caught, which is considered to be quite a good result, and in 2021, it is even more ironic, and fishermen have been widely invited to participate in the prevention and control program. Prof. Tseng Ching-hsien cooperated with Garmin to use underwater sonar to assist in electrofishing, which can be used to detect fish balls in areas where they are found, and then the sonar can grasp the fish balls, so that the control personnel can “wait for the fish balls to show up and then electrofishing, which will greatly increase the efficiency of the prevention and control program.

Nantou County Government said that the Sun Moon Lake water level rebounded, not only the beauty of the lake and mountains reappeared, the ferocious fish tiger also began to rampage, the pool can be seen from time to time large fish such as big head cormorant, Taiwan sea bream, due to its bite to the body of the crippled and died, plus the fish tiger adult fish can be more than 1 meter in length, weighing as much as 20 kilograms, so the prevention and control program in addition to the continuation of the last year's “electrofishing” in addition to the addition of the shot fish equipment, once the male, Once the adult male and female fish protect the small fish to form a group of fish balls, they will be rounded up by “electrofishing”, and if they are adults, they will be hunted down by the fish shooter, in order to reduce the impact on the aquatic organisms and achieve the purpose of preventing and controlling fish tigers and maintaining the ecological balance of the pool area.
