Since 2022, the Master’s Program in Chinese Language and Culture at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences of our university has hosted the U.S. Department of State’s NSLI-Y Summer Chinese Program. Due to its strong performance, our university has been selected to continue hosting the program each year.
The six-week program combines intensive Chinese language instruction with cultural activities, helping students rapidly improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Most participants advance by one level on the TOCFL test by the end of the program.
Participants also gain deeper insights into Taiwanese society and culture. Faculty and students actively engage in community outreach, integrating language education with local culture, community tours, and homestay experiences, promoting social responsibility and bridging classroom learning with real-life practice.
The program not only enhances students' Chinese proficiency and cross-cultural communication but also fosters long-term connections between Taiwanese and American youth, strengthening educational cooperation and grassroots friendship.
