Sustainable Development Goals

Abstract/Objectives

NTHU is committed to fostering a pedestrian-prioritized campus environment. NTHU has established a traffic committee to evaluate the pedestrian experience and has designated specific zones where pedestrians take precedence. Furthermore, it submits annual proposals to the Ministry of Education for projects aimed at enhancing the accessibility of campus facilities. Through these improvements, NTHU seeks to bolster the ability of students with limited mobility to adapt to and thrive in campus life and academic pursuits. By eliminating both tangible and intangible barriers, NTHU aims to ensure that these students can study alongside their peers and access educational resources with minimal restrictions. Additionally, these efforts facilitate convenient access and movement throughout the campus for faculty, parents, and community members with limited mobility.

Results/Contributions

1. Establishment of a Traffic Committee:

NTHU is committed to creating a pedestrian-prioritized campus environment. To improve traffic conditions and environmental quality, and to ensure the safety of both pedestrians and vehicles, a Traffic Committee has been established to oversee and promote various campus traffic management measures.

2. Designation of Pedestrian-Prioritized Zones:

NTHU has designated several pedestrian-prioritized zones across the campus, including zebra crossings and designated pedestrian walkways. Furthermore, to foster a pedestrian-centric environment, vehicle access to roads surrounding campus dining facilities is prohibited during meal times.

3. Continuous Improvement of Accessibility Facilities:

Since 2009, the university has annually applied for and participated in the Ministry of Education’s campus accessibility improvement program. These enhancements encompass teaching areas, administrative offices, public spaces, and dormitories. The scope of improvements includes entrances and exits, ramps (with handrails), doors and windows, outdoor plazas, indoor and outdoor pathways, restroom facilities, signage, drinking water stations, stairwells, elevators/lifts, information service terminals, parking spaces, electrical outlets and switches, as well as various teaching, learning, office, and electronic equipment and facilities.
