NTHU Offers Outreach and Extension Education Activities
清華大學提供外展教育活動
To promote educational equity and reduce the urban–rural education gap, NTHU is committed to organizing both ad-hoc and programmed outreach activities in off-campus communities. Student-led organizations also actively engage in local initiatives, demonstrating the university’s role as a center of knowledge that contributes to social responsibility and regional sustainability.
1. Regular Outreach Education Activities
Since 2014, the Center for Teacher Education of NTHU has implemented the Schweitzer Tutoring Program. Each summer, pre-service teachers travel to elementary and junior high schools in Kinmen and other remote areas to provide tutoring and academic support for local students. The program has so far engaged around 800 teacher trainees, offering consistent learning companionship to students in rural regions.
2. Ad-Hoc Outreach Education Activities
Students from NTHU’s Post-Baccalaureate Program in Medicine organize medical service teams during semester breaks or summer vacations to visit under-resourced rural areas, where they provide health education and basic medical support. In addition, NTHU has established the International Volunteer Group since 2007, with over 700 students having participated in overseas service-learning programs. Through these global volunteer experiences, students develop a broader worldview and civic awareness, embodying NTHU’s commitment to cultivating globally responsible citizens.
為促進教育平權，縮短城鄉教育差距，清華大學致力於校外地區舉辦定期與專案活動，學生自發性組織亦積極參與社區活動，展現大學作為知識中心對社會責任的支持與貢獻，促進地方永續發展。
一、定期外展教育活動： 清華大學師資培育中心自2014年起開展「史懷哲課輔計畫」，師資培育生每年利用暑假期間至金門離島的中小學進行輔導課程，提供偏鄉學生穩定的陪伴與學習支持，迄今已有約800位師資生參與課輔服務。
二、專案外展教育活動： 清華大學學士後醫系學生利用學期結束或暑假期間組成醫療服務隊，深入資源相對匱乏的偏鄉地區，提供居民健康教育。此外，清華大學自2007年成立國際志工團，至今已有700多位同學前往海外進行志工服務，透過海外服務學習讓學生成為具有全球視野的社會公民。

The Schweitzer Tutoring Program 史懷哲課輔計畫
Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, the Center for Teacher Education of NTHU has implemented the Schweitzer Tutoring Program since 2014. Each summer, pre-service teachers travel to elementary and preschools in Kinmen to provide tutoring sessions. Through a series of academic and sports activities, the program offers consistent companionship and learning support to students in rural areas, helping them build confidence and motivation in learning.
Locations: Gucheng Elementary School, Guning Elementary School, Sikuo Elementary School and Kindergarten, Sian An Elementary School and Kindergarten, and Duonian Elementary School and Kindergarten in Kinmen County

NTHU Rural Medical Service Team 清華醫學偏鄉醫療服務隊
Students from the Post-Baccalaureate Program in Medicine at NTHU form a medical service team during semester breaks or summer vacations to visit rural areas with limited medical resources. The team aims to understand local healthcare conditions and needs while providing health education and interactive wellness activities. This initiative allows medical students to gain hands-on experience, develop humanistic compassion and a sense of social responsibility, and promote health awareness and self-care ability among rural residents, ultimately improving community health outcomes.
Locations: Da’an Indigenous Community and Houlong Township Health Center in Miaoli County、Zhudong Community

清華大學學士後醫系學生利用學期結束或暑假期間組成醫療服務隊，深入資源相對匱乏的偏鄉地區，了解當地醫療現況與需求，並提供健康教育與互動服務。此活動可讓醫學生獲得實地經驗、培養人文關懷與偏鄉服務責任感，也促進偏鄉居民健康意識與健康自理能力，進而提升偏鄉居民的健康水平。

Overseas Service 海外服務
Since 2007, NTHU has established the International Volunteer Group, a student-initiated and self-organized volunteer organization. To date, over 700 students have participated in overseas volunteer services across three continents and eight countries. Through these international service-learning experiences, students not only build bridges of cross-cultural friendship but also grow into globally minded citizens with a strong sense of social responsibility.
